The Early Years:

MDI Safety began in the fall of 1992 with a simple goal: to provide hardworking people with reliable gloves and personal protective equipment they could depend on. With a 1976 Chevy van, we traveled throughout the coalfields of Western Virginia, Eastern Kentucky, and Southeastern West Virginia—setting up at mine entrances, flea markets, grocery store parking lots, and anywhere else we could meet workers who needed dependable PPE.
Those early days were hands-on in every sense. We listened to customers, learned what worked in real conditions, and built our business by showing up where the work was being done.

Growth and Family Legacy
In 1994, MDI Safety opened its first warehouse and distribution center. Growth came from within the family rather than outside hires. By the end of that year, six family members were working together, establishing a family-owned and operated structure that continues today.
Now, more than three decades later, three generations work side by side. That continuity has allowed us to retain deep product knowledge, maintain consistency in how we serve customers, and make decisions based on long-term relationships rather than short-term gains.

From Then to Now
What started with gloves sold out of a van has grown into a carefully curated supplier of industrial-grade personal protective equipment and safety products from trusted manufacturers. Over the years, our customer base has expanded to include large manufacturing facilities, contractors, small businesses, and individual professionals.
While the business has grown, our approach has remained the same: provide dependable products, honest guidance, and service customers can rely on. That history continues to shape how MDI Safety operates today—focused on reliability, availability, and doing things the right way.
